Endometriosis

Dietitian with endometriosis - the specialist

Are you looking for help because you have been diagnosed with endometriosis? You have found the right place! I myself (Annemarie) have IBS and endometriosis. I know better than anyone what it means and what complaints it can cause.

I too have walked around with complaints for a long time, of which it was not immediately clear what the cause was. You feel misunderstood and unheard. So it’s really ‘between the ears’. Your complaints are indeed not ‘normal’ even though you probably started to think so. What would it be like if you found a way to actually reduce your complaints!?

What is endometriosis

Endometriosis is a tough chronic condition. It is estimated that many women suffer from this, about 10% of all women who menstruate (and are fertile). In the case of endometriosis, endometrium (uterine lining) grows in places outside the uterus. In the wall of the uterus, or in the abdominal cavity, in the intestinal wall or near the ovaries. Perhaps you have adenomyose which is a another form of endo.

The complaints can vary greatly from none to reduced fertility, pain during sex and urination, (abdominal) pain and cramps and an abnormal stool pattern or a more serious course of menstruation (dysmenorrhea).

How can nutrition contribute ?

We have to be honest, there is no official endometriosis diet. This is because little scientific research has been done on this subject. That certainly does not mean that nutrition cannot contribute to reducing the complaints. In any case, you cannot cure endometriosis with food.

If tissue is in the intestinal wall, it can negatively affect digestion. You can then benefit from leaving out certain products so that those complaints become less or even disappear. The restriction of food  however, often leads to an incomplete diet. It can also happen that foods are wrongly left out because have been ‘accidentally’ identified as “bad”. Unfortunately, we see this very often in practice.

An inadequate eating pattern can lead to an aggravation of the complaints, exactly what you want to prevent.  Food can also cause more inflammation due to processing. Aiming to reduce the inflammations from food is a focus point in this diet as well.
